Homeschool 101 Classes by Donna Knox

Texas laws, how to withdraw, how to perform end of the year testing, dispelling homeschool mythology, helping to choose curriculums based on your child's learning style, your family's needs and you patience level, options that don't break the bank and are still worthy, how to do dual credit, grading, transcripts, diplomas, scheduling, college and educational philosophy! All of my children are ahead, well taught and usually test well above their grade level. How I achieve that and what my mindset is in achieving that is included in this course. I offer this in the summer each month, and intermittently throughout the year. 832-712-3436

Michelle is a Certified Archery Instructor who has successfully lead children through Archery meets. Her own son almost went to pros and was 6th in Nationals. Ms. Gore has promised to lead our children through the same system!

Location and Time: This group meets Thursdays at 3pm at Triple Edge Archery in Dayton.

Requirements: For children 3rd grade of 9 up to 18 or graduated senior. Parents are responsible for dues for each organization that meets are held. (Usually $25 for each organization) and equipment for each child. This group shoots compound only. No Bare or Recurve bows allowed. Triple Edge Archery will help to fit each child into equipment that is suitable for them.

Michelle wants every child to be able to harness their inner warrior! She will teach from a Christian viewpoint and will liken missing the target to sin, and teach the children the significance archery has in being Children of God!

Motto: Zechariah 10:4-6

Assessing skill gap issues, teaching full subjects, tutoring, mentoring and academic planning and coaching for all grades, and all courses. Specializing in children of special needs and/or with behavioral problems. Saving children who are behind and putting them back on track using my homeschool expertise. Some children just don't learn the way that it is taught. Assisting homeschool moms with skill gap or completely taking over specific subjects to ensure the child obtains proper instruction. There are many different reasons for this and there are as many different options as there are families. Everyone is different. Einstein said "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it's stupid." I find this to be in play in public AND homeschool classrooms! Allow me to expand your thinking and to show you how to appreciate your child's mind for exactly what it is!

Meets Fridays via Microsoft Teams 8:30-9:30am
Scope: A book club for all ages. Reading isn't just about improving skill. Literature teaches about history, art, and science and the great literature offers solid moral and philosophical teaching and guidance. Book clubs for youth are usually centered around reading just any old book. This book club will embrace the idea that children are born persons and that reading should be carving out, thoughts, ideas, preferences and personality. The end goal of this group will be to help the youth form integrity, and to help the youth discern truth and find goodness and appreciate beauty in the world around them. The goal will be to help them find True North.
Banning books is equivalent to burning them. Isaac Asimov wrote many dystopian novels like iRobot and I Am Legend and many others. He said that "Any book worth banning is a book worth reading." This will be our motto!
When/where: This group will meet every Friday morning from 8:30-9:15 either via zoom or teams regardless of the progress made in the book. Spoilers will be held until everyone is finished with a reasonable end date dictated when a book selection is given.
Cost: None. This is completely free. If, at any time, you have wanted me to teach your children literature, this is your opportunity.
Affiliation: This group is affiliated with Magellan Private In Home Tutoring and Donna Knox.
Coursework and density: This book club can replace or supplement any literature program. I will do my best to limit expectations to 30 minutes of reading a weekday to keep up.
Content: Not every book selection will be a banned book, but many will be at least challenged books. Great effort will be made to protect innocence while allowing the youth to broach upon sensitive subjects that press them.
Age: Not dictated herein for good reason. I have lead illiterate but mature 2nd graders successfully through The Lord of the Flies. So age will not be policed. However, with that being said, this group will be geared toward 5th-10th grade and literally anyone older than that age bracket will still find joy in listening in. Whether children younger than this will be able to participate will be on a book by book basis and a case by case basis. I will give warnings and suggestions for each book selection if they are applicable. Not every book will have serious content, but if it does come up I will do my very best to give each parent the courtesy of knowing what to expect. I also highly suggest looking up each selection on Common Sense Media. If I feel a child cannot handle content I will suggest to the mother that the child hang back on a particular book selection.
Since age isn't dictated, audio book listeners welcome. This is up to the parent. If you are using this for a literature course then you will likely want the child to read it themselves. I may suggest that the children listen to audio if we do back to back dense reads. I'll do my best to find free ones!
Guidance: Leader is Christian and will share/teach from a Christian worldview. Join in facebook group at any time!
